Cars numbered 6464, 6425, 6438 can be changed to other unique numbers. You could change a 4 to a 1 by using a black marker to cover the left side of the 4. Thus, 6464 can be 6461, 6164, or 6161. Car 6425 can yield 6125. 6438 can also be 6138. By taking out the left middle of the 8 with a black marker, you can get 6433 or 6133. You can do this trick with any black car to get a different number than supplied by the manufacturer. |

Reading Panel Side Hopper This is a model of the Reading panel side hopper. The model has a number used on the first car. Weigh Date is 7-39. Using the Accurail Panel Side Twin hopper, we lettered the car to reflect the capacities and unique lettering scheme for a panel side hopper. The kit contains a slip to buy more car numbers from Accurail. The idea of using panel sides was to replace rusted out panels of the USRA twin hoppers. Two manufacturers made replacement panels for the railroads to easily replace the rusted panels, also increasing the car capacity. The lettering on the car, reflects this. This is how we envision the car to look about July 1939. I remember seeing cars like this in the fifties. Some may have lasted longer. |

The October 1953 Official Railway Equipment Register lists 8 cars in the series 1200-1210. That means that there are cars numbered 1200 and 1210 and that there are 3 missing car numbers between 1201 and 1209, but it doesn't specify which numbers they are.
This is the photo that was used to create the car. Picture of 1205 was taken 9-8-51 in Raleigh, NC. Check out the trucks. I see three trucks in the photo and all three are different!!! Class RB: A bunkerless refrigerator car similar in design to an "RS" car w/ or w/o ventilating devices and w/ or w/o devices for attaching portable heaters. Constructed with a minimum of 3" of insulation in sides and 3.5" on ends and roof ( based on AAR Supplement to Manual Plate C-2). The Cars are $15 each. Two for $28. Each additional car is $14. Add $7.00 shipping for 1st model, 2 or more models, add $3.00 each. There was an order form in the box for extra numbers from Accurail. |
